Give Food

We could not achieve our goals without the help of food donations from local companies, food drives and individuals motivated to help others in need.

Food Donations

Food donations from individuals, groups and commercial food companies are welcome any time. If you are with a food company, please see our page on Food Company Donations.

Community Can and Cash Drives

Workplaces, churches, schools, youth groups, civic organizations, apartment complexes and others are encouraged to sponsor can and cash drives any time of the year. The Montgomery County Food Bank sponsors two major can and cash drive programs:

Summer Hunger Buster drives in the spring and summer to stock shelves when children are out of school and unable to access the national free and reduced-cost school lunch program. In addition, food contributed in the Montgomery County, Texas to the National Association of Letter Carriers' Food Drive each May is donated to the Montgomery County Food Bank.

Fall/Winter Can and Cash drives to feed families from September through February. The Montgomery County Food Bank supplies organizations holding can and cash drives with suggestions for successful drives and collateral printed materials.

Protections for Food Donors

The law protects food donors. The federal Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Act of 1996 protects businesses, non-profit organizations and individuals who donate food in good faith from civil or criminal liability should such donated food later cause harm to a recipient.

Tax benefits are also available to businesses that donate food. Current tax laws allow generous deductions for contributions of ordinary income property to charitable organizations.

Please feel free to contact us for information on having a can or cash drive. We look forward to hearing from you!
